Internet Radio - A Photographers New Best Friend

Nothing makes a client or model loosen up and feel more comfortable during a shoot than to be able to listen to their favorite music. Most of the time my clients will bring their iPod or favorite CD to a shoot.

If you have a computer with speakers connected to the internet in your studio there are some new services that can become a photographers best friend when a client forgets to bring their music.

While internet radio has been around for eon’s mostly in the independent music scenes, recently several free web based music services have cropped up including my two favorite LastFM.com and Pandora.com both services allow you to search for and play music from your favorite artist other artists that have been tagged similar. Give it a try and I think you’ll quickly become addicted, if your a music lover, you’ll enjoy the ability to find new music that you might otherwise may never have heard.

You’ll need to create a free account with both systems and if you don’t have a Cable or DSL connection to the internet it may not be worth it, but give it a shot. Both the system’s listed above also have an iPhone app for those of you who want to take their stations mobile. I would have to imagine that the XM’s of the world have got to be a little frightened of this new music model.

If your a news junkie check out Stitcher.com, it’s got news streams and podcasts on demand on just about every topic you can think of from sources like CNN, NPR, MSNBC, MacWorld and tons of others.

So the next time your client shows up without music and you need a little tunage to help get them over their pre-shoot jitters, internet radio just may be what the doctor ordered.
